Rock My Kenya Adventure

Come with us on the original Rock My Adventure tour to magical Kenya. Our incredible journey will take us from the animal-tastic Masai Mara and the hip and vibrant city of Nairobi to the beautiful beaches of the Swahili coast and everything in between, including stunning Amboseli National Park & Mount Kilimanjaro.

Let us show you the adventurous, beautiful, wild and real Kenya we know and love!

This tour takes in many of the main highlights in Kenya, starting in the capital city Nairobi. We’ll ease into life in Kenya with visits to the baby elephants at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and the giraffes at the Nairobi Giraffe Centre where you’ll have the chance to feed and kiss a giraffe.

From there we’re off to the incredible Masai Mara where we’ll go on a 2-day safari in the park to try and spot the ‘Big 5’! This is a great adventure and you’ll love hearing hyenas cackle and lions roar as you drift off to sleep! The Masai Mara is one of the best (if not THE best) safari destinations in the world, so you won’t be disappointed!

Whilst there, we’ll spend time with Helen’s Maasai friends, learn all about their lives and customs and spend time in the local township, something not many tourists will ever experience!

Then it’s back to Nairobi where we’ll take a tour of downtown with a group of former street boys. They’ll share their personal stories with us and show you a different side of Nairobi that very few tourists get to experience.

Leaving the bright lights of the city, we’ll travel to the iconic, yet little known Amboseli National Park which lies at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Amboseli is known for huge herds of elephants and that classic safari picture of animals in front of the mountain, so have your cameras at the ready.

Next up is the stunning Swahili Coast. Our first stop is the historical port city of Mombasa, where you’ll learn all about Swahili culture and history.

From there we’ll spend the weekend in Diani Beach, right on the Indian Ocean. Diani is famous for white sandy beaches, beautiful blue seas and great nightlife. It’s also one of the most incredible skydiving locations in Africa.

Our last stop is the laid-back town of Kilifi, where you’ll have the chance to take part in some of the activities on offer or just relax – it’s completely up to you!

Come with us on the adventure of a lifetime!

This was my first trip to Africa. Wow! What a way to explore Kenya, a really good mixture of sight seeing, and immersing into Kenyan life. From eating a meal at Carnivore to partying in a township in the Maasai Mara where there were no other tourists with well informed guides and a fun packed itinerary. This is a trip not one to miss. I loved it and would definitely book another tour. I found Jessi to be fun, informative, knowledgeable and organised. I think you would be hard pushed to make this tour any better. The tour was amazing value for money! I still don’t know how you did all this on this budget.”

In the morning, we’ll take a visit to see the baby elephants at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

In the afternoon we’ll go on a city tour with a group of former street boys. They’ll share their personal stories with us and show you a side to Nairobi that very few tourists get to see. You will come away from the experience with a whole mix of emotions and lots of inspiration.

Day 3: The Masai Mara

We’ll depart from Nairobi and head towards the world famous Masai Mara for our safari, but not before you have the chance to feed and kiss a giraffe at the Nairobi Giraffe Centre (don’t worry, their spit is anti-septic).

On the way to the Mara, we’ll take in the views of the magnificent Great Rift Valley and stop for lunch in the town of Narok, before heading to our lovely camp just a few kilometres outside the Masai Mara gate.

In the evening, we’ll relax around the campfire and under the stars at our campsite.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
  • Accommodation: Twin Occupancy (Tented Lodge)
  • Activities: Nairobi Giraffe Centre, Great Rift Valley Viewpoint
Day 4 - 5: The Masai Mara

On day 4 we’ll jump in our safari vehicle and spend a full day looking for the Big 5. The Masai Mara is one of the best safari destinations in the world and we’ll be visiting around the same time as the annual wildebeest migration, one of the greatest natural shows on earth.

In the evening, we’ll spend the night in our very own, self-made bush camp inside the Masai Mara, listening to hyenas cackle, elephants trumpets and lions roar as we drift off to sleep. That’s right, we’re totally in the wild. But don’t worry, our Maasai warrior guides will protect us!

The following day, we’re up early and back in the safari vehicle to spot more of the wonderful Masai Mara wildlife, so you will have a great chance of spotting the ‘Big Five’ – lion, elephant, buffalo and the elusive black rhino and leopard.

In the evening we’ll head back to the main camp to wash off the safari dust and enjoy an amazing bbq dinner of nyama choma and other traditional Kenyan dishes.

  • Meals: 2 x Breakfast, 2 x Lunch, 2 x Dinner
  • Accommodation: Twin Occupancy (Bush Camp & Tented Lodge)
  • Activities: 2-Day Masai Mara Safari, Bush Camping, BBQ Dinner
Day 6: The Masai Mara

Early in the morning, those who want to can take an optional hot air ballon ride (additional cost) over the Masai Mara. This is a wonderful chance to see the epic landscape from the air and you may even see a few animals too! This activity is followed by a champagne breakfast by the Mara River.

When the ballooners return, we’ll spend the day with Helen’s Maasai friends, going on a guided hike, visiting the local school (term time only), playing with the children and having lunch in the village. This is always a super fun day and one that you’ll never forget.

That evening we’ll head out for dinner and some drinks in one of the restaurant/bars in the nearby township of Sekenani.

You won’t find any other tourists here!

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

In the evening we’ll try some of the best Ethiopian food outside of Ethiopia! Then the rest of the evening will be free to rest or those who want to can head out to some of the cool bars in town.

Day 8 - 9: Amboseli National Park & Mount Kilimanjaro

On day 9 we’ll make our way to Amboseli National Park, one of the most iconic, yet lesser known safari destinations in all of Africa because it lies at the foot of the magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro.

We’ll spend 2 days on safari here and if we’re lucky, we’ll catch a great glimpse of the mountain!

Amboseli is famous for the elephants that live here in huge herds and it isn’t uncommon to see 30 or more together. It’s quite the spectacular sight – especially if we catch them in front of the mountain!

We’re staying at a wonderful camp with great views of the mountain and a pool for relaxing when we’re not on safari.

  • Meals: 2 x Breakfast, 2 x Lunch, 2 x Dinner
  • Accommodation: Twin Occupancy (Tented Lodge)
  • Activities: Safaris in Amboseli National Park
Day 10 - 11: Mombasa

Leaving Amboseli, we’ll make our way to catch the Nairobi to Mombasa SGR train.

The new train is a great experience, super comfortable and you can often spot elephants and other animals from the train as you pass through Tsavo National Park!

We once saw 13 herds!

In the evening we’ll go out for a delicious dinner at one of Mombasa’s best restaurants and afterwards, you can take in some of the famous Mombasa nightlife if you like!

The following day, we’ll explore the city on a walking tour, visiting a number of the major attractions in the city, including the Mombasa arches, the old town and markets and Fort Jesus.

The rest of the day is free to shop or explore Mombasa at your leisure.

The following day is a free day to hang out at the pool, take a camel ride down the beach, shop for souvenirs in the local market or if you’re feeling active, try your hand at one of the many activities on offer.

Diani beach is a popular place to go skydiving, as it’s one of the most beautiful places on the planet to do it, overlooking the entire Swahili Coast, plus the landing spot is right on the beach!

Today we’ll make our way to the cool and laid-back town of Kilifi where we will spend the next two nights.

On the way, we’ll stop for lunch at an incredible spot with amazing views over the stunning Shimba Hills National Reserve.

In the afternoon and evening, there’ll be some well-earned downtime where you can chill, relax at the pool venture down to the beach to try and catch the bioluminescence in the water!

The following day is a  free day to take part in one of the many activities in and around Kilifi.

This could include kite surfing, whale watching, SUP, cooking classes, snorkelling trips, Bofa Beach, Vuma Cliffs, Gedi Ruins, local markets, taking motorbikes around the town or venturing to the nearby towns of Malindi or Watamu.

In the late afternoon, we’ll take a walk through a beautiful village which is home to the Giriama people (usually followed by a bunch of super cute kids).

Travel insurance is essential for ALL Rock My Adventure trips.

Your health and safety when travelling is of the utmost importance, so it is vital that you have travel insurance policy that covers you for your trip to Africa. Adequate travel insurance is a condition of your contract with us and you will not be able to join a trip without it.

You must be satisfied that your insurance fully covers all your personal requirements including cancellation charges, theft, medical expenses and repatriation in the event of accident or illness.

Your insurance should also cover you for any adventurous activities that you wish to do – this includes the ‘included’ activities on the tour and any ‘optional’ activities.

Please be aware that some hazardous activities such as (but not limited to) white water rafting on grade 5 rapids, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, safari walks, bungee jumping and sky diving may not be covered by all policies, so you may have to take out a higher level of cover.

Medical care is not free in Africa and even the cost of getting to hospital can be super expensive, so you need to be covered in case of a medical emergency, including air ambulance evacuation and repatriation in the event of accident or illness. For example, if your appendix bursts whilst we are in the Serengeti, you will need to be evacuated by helicopter to Nairobi. Without insurance you would need to pay for that out of your own pocket.

If you are bringing along any electrical equipment such as cameras and laptops, you should also ensure your insurance covers those items too. Some policies only have this as an add-on.

If you are travelling to an area that is subject to foreign office warnings, this may void your travel insurance, so you may need to take out an additional policy for the days you are in the danger zones.

Please always read the small print.

Your tour leader will collect your travel insurance details on the first day of your trip, so please have the following information ready for them:

  • Name of insurance provider.
  • Your policy number.
  • The telephone number to call in the event of an emergency.
  • Your next of kin name and number.
