Come with us on the adventure of a lifetime!

“This is what traveling in Africa should be like. The Kenya & Tanzania adventure hits up all the highlights (and then some), and really lets you immerse yourself in East Africa in a way that’s still comfortable. The tour is great value for money, and don’t be surprised if by the end you’re already thinking about planning a return trip. It was even better than I expected! It was very well-organized, and I felt like we really did see the best of both Kenya and Tanzania. It was a nice mix of the “famous” highlights you expect to see, and also some unique local interaction.”

The views are spectacular, with rolling hills as far as the eye can see.

We’ll trek across the Shira Plateau to spend the night at Shira 1 Camp where we may get the chance to see Kibo Peak, poking above the clouds.

Today we’ll make our way from Shira 1 Camp, to Shira 2 Camp and you will get the chance to view the Northern Ice fields. It’s a steady climb, with great panoramic views of the mountain.

You’ll start to notice the air getting thinner, but we’ll support each other every step of the way to keep our spirits high!

Once we reach our camp, we’ll do an acclimatization walk to allow our bodies to get used to the thin air, before settling down for the evening with more great food!

The landscape really changes today and you’ll feel like you’re on the moon with dramatic rock formations and the unusual looking giant groundsel trees.

We’ll pass the famous Lava Tower at 4640m, where we’ll enjoy lunch before making our way down (yes down, this helps with acclimatisation) to Barranco Camp where we will spend the night.

The views from this camp are incredible so have your cameras at the ready. it just keeps getting better and better on Kilimanjaro!

Day 7: Barranco Camp (3960m) to Karanga Camp (3963m)

Today is an awesome day on Kilimanjaro!

The morning views from camp are absolutely amazing and today is the day we face the awesome Barranco Wall.

The Barranco Wall is not for the faint of heart (or for those with a fear of heights) as it requires scrambling up a very street rock face, but is an exciting and exhilarating challenge! But don’t worry, we’ll take it slow and our guides will help us every single step of the way!

The feeling when you reach the top is amazing and sitting above the clouds, on the top of the Barranco Wall was one of the most peaceful and serene moments of my life.

From here we’ll make our way into the Karanga Valley to spend the night. We’ll enjoy dinner in the mess tent and rest for the evening to regain our strength for the days ahead.

Day 8: Karanga Camp (3960m) to Barafu Camp (4640m)

After a good rest and big breakfast, we’ll start the trek to Barafu Camp (base camp). This is our penultimate push towards the summit.

The terrain is very different now, with little to no signs of vegetation. Standing amongst the rocks, above the clouds, with Mount Meru poking above the clouds in the distance, you will feel like you’ve landed on an alien planet.

Once we arrive at camp, we’ll have a nap before dinner. Once we’ve eaten, we’ll go back to bed, for tonight we attempt the summit!

  • Meals: All Meals
  • Accommodation: Camping (All Camping Equipment & Bedding Provided)

We’ll be up and out early for another game drive in the Serengeti looking for animals who are usually very active in the morning before it gets too hot.

You’ll likely see zebras milling about the camp as you go to brush your teeth and we’ll share stories of the noises we heard in the night over breakfast.

The Serengeti has an abundance of wildlife so you won’t be disappointed! We’ll keep our eyes peeled for lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes and all the other animals you could ever hope to see on safari.

In the afternoon, we’ll head to the Ngorongoro Crater, where we’ll set up camp on the crater rim. When the sun goes down, we’ll relax around the campfire and under the stars.

  • Meals: All Meals
  • Accommodation: Camping (All Camping Equipment & Bedding Provided)
  • Activities: Kilimanjaro Trek
Day 10: Moshi

It’s a relatively short walk down to the Mweka Gate, where we will receive our certificates and say goodbye to our support team (this is an emotional experience too) and take part in the tipping ceremony.

Our next stop is Moshi, for what I can 100% say will be THE BEST shower of your life!

After we’re all cleaned, rested and refreshed, we’ll head out for a celebratory meal for our awesome team of Kili warriors!

During the visit, you will have chance to meet the Maasai people and learn about their unique way of life.

In the early afternoon, we will leave the village and continue to a beautiful hot spring, which attracts locals and tourists alike.

Here we’ll rest our weary bodes, swim in the crystal clear waters that run from Kilimanjaro, swing Tarzan style into the water, enjoy a delightful picnic lunch prepared by our guides and maybe have a beer or two.

Refreshed and relaxed (although probably still a bit achy), we’ll head to Arusha ready for our safari tomorrow.

We’ll leave Arusha early, arriving in the Serengeti in the afternoon. As we drive into the park, there will be plenty of opportunities to spot some wildlife! Believe me, you’ll be singing Circle of Life all the way in!!

You’ll go to sleep to the sounds of hyenas cackling and maybe even hear the odd lion roar or elephant trumpet in the distance (or possibly nearby).

It’s not uncommon for animals to wander through the campsite at night so it’s always an adventure!

Day 14: Arusha

After another early start, we’ll head down into the Ngorongoro Crater for another day on safari.

The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact crater in the world, formed 3 million years ago when a volcano (reportedly higher than Kilimanjaro) collapsed. The result is one of the most spectacular landscapes on earth.

Inside the crater is filled with animals and if we’re lucky we might see an endangered black rhino or two.

After the safari, we’ll head back to Arusha to spend the evening.

Day 15: Stone Town/Departure Day

Today is an exciting day as we’re heading to Zanzibar*.

Fed and watered, we’ll explore Stone Town with the best guide on the island and learn all about the history (and all the gossip) of this incredible place.

In the evening we’ll take a trip to Forodhani Gardens, the awesome nightly food market. Where you can pick up some local delicacies such as seafood kebabs, samosas, fruit, grilled maize, sugar cane juice and my favourite, the Zanzibar pizza!

We like ours filled with mango, tomato, cheese, onion, avocado and egg – the Helen Special. Mmmmm!

*Flights booked separately.

Our crew will prepare a seafood buffet for lunch, including lobster, fish and calamari as well as chicken and vegetarian options. Drinks are also included in the trip.

In the afternoon we’ll explore Kwale Island, see an ancient baobab tree and relax on a beautiful beach. Then it’s straight up to the stunning beaches of Paje and our hotel which lies right on the beautiful beach.

    • Local Payment: Paid on arrival to your Tour Leader in Africa

The local payment is separate from the initial price you pay prior to the trip. You pay the local payment to your Tour Leader in US Dollars upon arrival in Africa.

This includes the on tour expenses that we cannot pay prior to arrival, such as national park entry fees, food, local transport and some activities.

Travel insurance is essential for ALL Rock My Adventure trips.

Your health and safety when travelling is of the utmost importance, so it is vital that you have travel insurance policy that covers you for your trip to Africa. Adequate travel insurance is a condition of your contract with us and you will not be able to join a trip without it.

You must be satisfied that your insurance fully covers all your personal requirements including cancellation charges, theft, medical expenses and repatriation in the event of accident or illness.

Your insurance should also cover you for any adventurous activities that you wish to do – this includes the ‘included’ activities on the tour and any ‘optional’ activities.

Please be aware that some hazardous activities such as (but not limited to) white water rafting on grade 5 rapids, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, safari walks, bungee jumping and sky diving may not be covered by all policies, so you may have to take out a higher level of cover.

Medical care is not free in Africa and even the cost of getting to hospital can be super expensive, so you need to be covered in case of a medical emergency, including air ambulance evacuation and repatriation in the event of accident or illness. For example, if your appendix bursts whilst we are in the Serengeti, you will need to be evacuated by helicopter to Nairobi. Without insurance you would need to pay for that out of your own pocket.

If you are bringing along any electrical equipment such as cameras and laptops, you should also ensure your insurance covers those items too. Some policies only have this as an add-on.

If you are travelling to an area that is subject to foreign office warnings, this may void your travel insurance, so you may need to take out an additional policy for the days you are in the danger zones.

Please always read the small print.

Your tour leader will collect your travel insurance details on the first day of your trip, so please have the following information ready for them:

    • Name of insurance provider.
    • Your policy number.
    • The telephone number to call in the event of an emergency.
    • Your next of kin name and number.

    What are you waiting for?
