Rock My Morocco Adventure

Morocco is an amazing country, full of intrigue and mystery, with stunning landscapes and fascinating history –  the perfect place to explore your cultural and adventurous side! Join us whilst we explore the cities of Marrakech and Essaouira, ride camels and sleep under stars in the Sahara Desert, climb magnificent Mount Toubkal in the Atlas Mountains and surf in the Atlantic Ocean (optional).

Tour Overview
Starting in Taghazout on the Atlantic Coast, we’ll spend our days learning to surf, taking part in sunrise and sunset yoga sessions and our evenings relaxing under spectacular starry skies… with great food, great company and a glass of wine or two or three (no-one’s judging, you’re on your holidays)!

From there we’ll head along the coast to the pretty port city of Essaouira, famous for it’s beauty, laid-back vibe and for being one of the Game of Thrones filming locations. Here, we’ll wander through the souks, take a guided tour through the city, eat fresh fish and there will also be time to take part in on of the many activities on offer, such as horse riding, kite surfing, Moroccan cooking classes and of course… shopping.

Next it’s onwards to the hustle and bustle of magical Marrakech! We’ll explore the city, get lost in the medina, try some of the best Moroccan food you could ever imagine and drink lots of sweet mint tea! Marrakech is an absolute assault on the senses… in the best possible way!

After a couple of days in Marrakech we’ll make our way towards the incredible Sahara Desert, passing by the stunning Dades Valley and Aït Benhaddou, a ksar on the former caravan route to the Sahara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and regular filming location (parts of the film Gladiator were filmed here too) on the way. When we reach the desert, we’ll climb aboard our dromedaries (that’s a one humped camel to you and me) and ride Lawrence of Arabia style into the desert to spend a night in a Bedouin camp.

From the Sahara we’ll head tup into the stunning Atlas Mountains for our final challenge of the trip, an 2-day expedition to climb Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s highest mountain. The ascent up Toubkal is challenging but absolutely incredible!

The night before and after the climb, we’ll rest up at our lovely and cosy guesthouse, with open fires, snuggly rooms and the best food in Morocco (in our opinion).

Then it’s back to Marrakech for one last wonderful evening together in the Red City.

DAY 1:  Taghazout

Surf Maroc (or similar)

Arrive in Agadir and transfer to your accommodation in Taghazout for the night. We’ll be staying at a fantastic surf school with incredible views over the beach and the surf.

Relax and get to know your fellow travellers during a welcome meal and a beer or two! Your Rock My Morocco Adventure starts here.

*  If you have the time and can arrive earlier, we can organise any other activities you wish to do. Additional accommodation and activities charged separately.

DAY 2, 3 & 4:  Taghazout

3 x Breakfast, 3 x Lunch, 3 x Dinner

Surf Maroc (or similar)

Surfing, Yoga

We’ll spend our first few days learning to surf and do yoga with our expert instructors, whilst staying at a gorgeous boutique hotel

Each day, after a delicious breakfast we pick up our boards and wetsuits, pile into vans and head down to the beach for a full day of surfing.

There will be a couple of hours of lessons/coaching in the morning, before we break for a packed lunch on the beach.

Those who want to can get back in the water for more surfing in the afternoon, those who don’t can chill, read a book and just enjoy the beach.

The lessons are suitable for all abilities, whether you’ve surfed before or it’s your very first time – we’ve got you covered.

After a day of surfing, there will be some free time to take part in a sunset yoga session, visit the spa or relax by the pool before dinner. Yoga is the perfect complimentary activity for surfing, strengthening those core muscles. You are also able to take part in sunrise yoga sessions too if you wish!

DAY 5:  Essaouira

Breakfast, Dinner

Essaouira City Tour

Today we’ll head along the coast to the pretty and atmospheric port city of Essaouira (also known as Mogador), famous for being a Game of Thrones filming location. This is also where the 10-day Rock My Adventurers will join us!

In the afternoon, we’ll take a tour of the city, exploring the harbour, the colourful medina and spice scented souks (markets).

Essaouira is one of my favourite places in Morocco and photographer’s dream, so don’t forget to bring your camera.

In the evening we’ll eat out at a great local restaurant.

DAY 6:  Essaouira

Fish Market

On our second day in Essaouira there will be some free time to shop or take part in the optional activity of your choice. Popular activities include horse or camel rides on the beach, wind and kite surfing, the Villa Maroc Gardens, visiting a hamman or taking a Moroccan cooking class.

In the early evening, we’ll take a wander through the pretty streets and seafront, taking in the atmosphere, before having dinner at the fish market.

Those who want to can head out to a lively local bar afterwards – it’s Saturday night after all!

DAY 7:  Marrakech

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Marrakech Food Tour, Jemaa el Fna

After easing you into Moroccan life, we’re off to hectic, colourful Marrakech!

We’ll have lunch on arrival and then there will be some free time in the afternoon to chill at our riad or wander the medina and shop at your leisure or visit one of the sights around town.

For dinner, we’ll take an amazing food tour through the medina, where we’ll get an insight into Marrakech life, try the best local foods around (including couscous, Berber pizza and even snails and sheep’s head if you are daring enough – don’t worry veggies, there are alternatives) around and eat in many of the places most tourists miss.

We’ll finish the evening with a mint tea in Marrakech’s main square, Jemaa el Fna.

DAY 8:  Marrakech

Marrakech Walking Tour

In the morning, we’ll get our bearings in the ‘Red City’ by taking a walking tour of the medina with our expert guide. We’ll experience the magic of the souks, the beautiful Bahia Palace and taking in the sights, sounds and smells of Jemaa el Fna (also called Djemaa el Fna) to name but a few. This is a no shopping tour, but don’t worry, you will get plenty of time to shop later!

The afternoon is free time to hang out at the riad, visit some of the art galleries or museums, get scrubbed down at a hammam, take a bicycle tour, visit one of the pretty riads, or La Momounia, wander the medina or to shop. Marrakech has some of the best shopping in the world and by now you should have perfected your haggling skills, so grab yourself some bargains.

In the evening you will have a free night to explore as you wish, however I highly suggest you head over to the new city of Gueliz to sample one Marrakech’s many excellent restaurants and the great nightlife (that’s where I will be going).

DAY 9: Aït Benhaddou & Dades Valley

Breakfast, Lunch Dinner

Tizi n’ Tichka Pass, Aït Benhaddou

Today we’ll head toward the Sahara Desert.

Driving out of Marrakech, we’ll use the stunning Tizi n’ Tichka Pass in the High Atlas Mountains on the way to ancient city of Aït Benhaddou, a ksar on the former caravan route to the Sahara and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Visiting Aït Benhaddou is like stepping back in history or the set of a film, and if you’re thinking it looks familiar, you’d be right as this is where they filmed parts of Game of Thrones and Gladiator (and many other films)! In Gladiator, the city doubles for Zuccabar in Mauritania (modern day Algeria).

We’ll pass through Ouarzazate (Morocco’s answer to Hollywood) and the Valley of the Roses as we make our way to the stunning Dades Valley.

DAY 10:  The Sahara Desert

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Bedouin Desert Camp

Todra Gorge, Camel Ride in the Sahara Desert, Bedouin Desert Camp

We’ll continue our journey, passing ancient kasbahs and taking time to admire the magnitude of the Todra Gorge on a short walk.

Arriving at the Sahara Desert, we’ll leave our mini bus and hop aboard our new form of transport – camels! Once we’re on, we’ll enjoy a ride to our home for the evening – a Bedouin desert camp.

We’ll play in the sand dunes at sunset and enjoy a night under the stars, with a campfire, traditional dinner and music.

DAY 11:  Imlil

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

It’s a Surprise

Camel Ride in the Sahara Desert

We’ll watch the sunrise from atop a sand dune, before getting back on our camels and riding out of the desert Lawrence of Arabia style.

Today is mostly a drive day as we head back towards Marrakech and up into the Atlas Mountains, where we’ll spend the evening relaxing at our cosy guesthouse up in the High Atlas Mountains, which happens to be one of my favourite hotels in the world and with some of the best Moroccan food around!

DAY 12:  Mount Toubkal

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Toubkal Refuge

Mount Toubkal Expedition

Today we will begin our ascent of North Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Toubkal with our expert guide!

We’ll begin early, heading along the Mizane Valley, passing villages on the way to the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch. The trek up Toubkal is tough, yet rewarding.

We’ll spend the night at the Toukbal Refuge at 3,206m, ready for the final ascent tomorrow.

DAY 13:  Imlil

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

It’s a Surprise

Mount Toubkal Expedition

Early in the morning we will attempt to reach the summit of Mount Toubkal which stands at an impressive 4,167m.

The trek is relatively straightforward, but the scree and the altitude will make the ascent a little more challenging in parts.

However the breathtaking views from the top will make the effort worthwhile!

We’ll spend the rest of the day making our way back down to Imlil and as the sun sets, we’ll rest our weary bones and relax on the roof terrace with a glass of wine and take in the spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and mountains.

DAY 14:  Marrakech

Breakfast, Dinner

After a lie in and leisurely breakfast, it’s back to the bright lights of Marrakech, where there will be some free time to do any last minute shopping or sightseeing.

In the evening we’ll head out on the town for a goodbye meal at one of Marrakech’s best restaurants.

DAY 15: Departure Day
